“I’m an artist that has built my career translating creative ideation into physical spaces - through interior design.”

Liz Rush

Hello.

Liz Rush is an artist that has built her career translating creative ideation into physical spaces - through interior design. Her approach to design and art are not mutually exclusive, rather the result of being built with similar education, logic and professional experience. This internal collaboration creates tangible art that "solves a creative problem and communicates spatial balance to its environment".

In her words:

"My creative work is a collective of playful exploration that stems from a foundation of both analytical and creative thinking to create compositions rooted in the fundamental elements and principle of design. Namely - balance, rhythm, scale, space, form, texture and color. My creative experience is diverse; collected and inspired by my travels across the world, different cultures and historical design minds. My creative process is rooted in experimentation through curiosity and approaching each effort with an experienced eye and a playful spirit.

When I create, my point of view is supported by the cross-disciplinary genres I've experienced and draw inspiration from - architectural assembly, essential geometric forms, creative problem solving, tactile techniques and mathematical order. A true juxtaposition between art and science. A career in commercial interior design has taught me to think about how fabrication and construction influence art making and how the constraints of a project can serve to inspire and stir up a creative process rather than undermine it.

There is a human tendency to impose order in the spaces we occupy. The majority of my artwork solves a creative problem and communicates spatial balance to its environment. It is created with a mélange of materials to react to, balance out or stand proud from its surroundings. The structure of each piece creates beauty. The geometric order evokes a systematic quality. The dimensionality invites interaction. And color is used strategically for impact or decompression. Through continuous visual inspiration and ambition, I am excited and motivated as an artist and designer to create something original, thoughtful and measured in my work. I aim to spark optimism and intrigue by utilizing thoughtful details and honest materials.

I’ve joked that I could design a room around any object - even a salt shaker as inspiration....picture it; crisp white plaster walls, with a glossy and reflective barrel vault ceiling, sparkling chrome light fixtures, faceted mirrors placed ever so intentionally to maximize the floor to ceiling natural light pouring in from the East, perforated metal details in the coffee table with a smoked mirror top, boucle curved sofa in polar bear white tone with a high pile silk rug underfoot....I could go on! Not a salt shaker in sight and yet you feel the MOOD, the vibe of a space that is truly created, inspired, unique.
